40200H update

It's been three years since I wrote my first review of this benchtop planer. Nothing has changed except it is three years older and it is still a remarkable machine. Turns out my fears that the dust shoot might not be able to withstand attaching/disconnecting my dust collector never materialized. Because of user error, I crashed the gear box. Its replacement was not only affordable, but the Tech support was excellent. The repair process was straight forward. I have no reservations in recommending this machine and you shouldn't have any when considering it.

Great planer

I have used numerous portable planers, and I will say this is the best I have owned.one would not be making a mistake to get one of these machines.

I've used almost daily for 2 years

I've used this almost daily for 2 years. Haven't had one problem. Haven't even rotated the carbide cutters. No snipe ever. Dust collection is fine, could be tighter. No slop in the height adjustment dial. I'd highly recommend it this thing. The price is fair for the machine you’re getting. Not having to sharpen blades is always nice.

Don't let a Benchtop Fool you

Unless you plane all day everyday, this 80 plus pound helical planer will do just fine. Of course softwoods are no issue For this beast but I was curious as to how it would handle very hard spalted white oak. I’ve run at least 500 feet through it along with several hundred feet of mesquite. Every single piece that came out never needed sanding. As long as I fed it in with the correct grain direction. That was user error, not The Beast which I have affectionately named it. Seriously, I have been so happy with this purchase (it’s been a little over two years).
The only frustration I have with it is the dust port connection. It takes three screws (knobs). Only the center one goes through a hole in the port. The two on the side simply pinch down on the port. This needs to be fixed with a hook system or make all three go through a hole for a more secure attachment.
That is seriously the only thing I find “wrong” with this planer. I have been extremely pleased and look forward to many years of use with this.
